This walk starts from the village of Pilzone and will allow you to reach one of the most panoramic points of Lake Iseo.
- Starting Point: Pilzone
- Time: 40 minutes (the way up)
- Difficulty: Steep. You have to be a little bit trained, as the way is all up hill
- Gears: hiking boots o trainers; trekking poles can be very useful for the way down, as the ground can be quite slippery
- Water on the way: no, only at the starting point
- Best time: all year around
The trail starts at Piazza Basilio Cittadini, in Pilzone. If you have a car, you can park it at “Parking Valeriana”, just a 2 minutes walk from there.
Follow the signs to “Antica Via Valeriana” and “San Fermo” which will bring you first left (via Volontari del Sangue), and then, right (via San Tommaso).
The road, at first paved, begins to climb a little. It will soon become a steep mule track, which climbs in the woods for about 35 minutes.
The church of San Fermo
Finally, you’ll reach the little church of San Fermo, dating back to 1600, with its detached bell tower. If the vegetation allows it, you can enjoy a beautiful panorama.
The Big Bench
If the leaves are too many and obscure the view, don’t worry. A little further on (2 minutes), there is one of the giant benches, part of the Big Bench Community Project, from where you’ll be able to enjoy an incredible panorama. Just follow the signs to “Panchina Gigante”.
The area is equipped with tables for pic-nic. When we arrived, we also found a bowl with water for dogs, some bottles of water with a piggy bank for offerings, and wooden sticks for the way back that, as mentioned, can be quite slippery.
