Bossico-Ceratello, a Walk between Nature and Tradition

Ceratello and Bossico are two villages located on the hills of Northern Lake Iseo.

The road “Bossico-Ceratello” opened in 2016 and connects the two villages. This walk can be done entirely on the paved road (coming back the same way), or as a loop, following a trail in the wood first, and take the road on the way back.

This hike will allow you to immerse yourself in nature by walking through the woods, admire the lake and the surrounding mountains, and visit the rural villages of Bossico and Ceratello.

If you wish, you can also have lunch in a local restaurant and buy daily product from the farm.

Below is the description of the entire walk as a loop.

  • Starting Point: Ceratello (BG)
  • Time: 2.5 hours (the loop)
  • Difficulty: Easy with some steep parts
  • Gears: hiking boots o trainers
  • Water on the way: only at the starting point and at the end of the trail
  • Best time: all year around

Starting point

The walk starts from Ceratello, a hamlet of Costa Volpino, that can be reach by car (easiest option) or by bus, from Lovere (Piazza XIII Martiri – ask the Tourist Office for more information).

Park your car in Piazzale Bergamo (45.836286, 10.075554). The parking is free of charge. If you take the bus, Piazzale Bergamo is the last stop.

From there, turn right and take Via della Resistenza. Ignore the sign “Ristorante ai Ciar” and continue up hill on Via della Resistenza. At the junction, take the right and continue on this road.

The asphalt soon gives way to the pebbles and the road turns into a path, as you enter into the woods.  At some point you will find a fork.

The wood

Take the road on the left , following the sign “Sentiero Flavio Tasca” and “Località Stramazzano, Bossico”. Now stay on this path, which goes up hill for about 20/25 minutes.

After the climb, when the path leaves the wood and becomes flat, you will see the first houses in a distance and the lake on your left. You are arrived in Bossico. Now it’s all downhill!

The Village of Bossico

Continue following the path, which now becomes asphalted. On your left you will find the Agriturismo Cinque Abeti, where you can eat or buy local dairy products. Keep walking downhill on Via Sette Colli.

On the way you will find the restaurant “Ristorante Sette Colli”. Other restaurants can be find in the center of the village, which is at the end of the road.

In front of the restaurant you will see a path that goes downhill, take it and continue walking down until you join the road called “Località Foppelli” (This is a shortcut that passes amongst the fields. Alternatively, you can continue on the paved road (Via Sette Colli) until you meet a shrine.

There, turn left on the road “Località Foppelli”. (If you want to reach the center of the village, continue on the main road).

The road

From here, just follow the road that will bring you back to Ceratello. The road is open to cars, even though they are very rare.

The loop can also be done the other way around.
